Results over Rhetoric

Writer: TonyTony

Tuesday’s special election for the 21st State Senate District is about more than just party politics—it’s about choosing the right kind of leadership for our communities. Voters across Shelton, Stratford, Monroe, and Seymour deserve a representative who delivers real solutions, not just familiar promises.

Representative Jason Perillo has put forward a platform centered on affordability and economic development—issues we all care about. But his approach lacks a key ingredient: a realistic path to delivering results. Sweeping tax cuts may sound appealing, but without thoughtful planning, they risk undermining the very services that make our towns strong—like schools, infrastructure, and public safety. Connecticut’s financial stability has improved significantly in recent years, but maintaining that progress requires balancing smart investments with responsible budgeting.

Affordability isn’t just about tax rates—it’s about wages, job opportunities, and the cost of essential services. My focus on workforce development, growing small businesses, and ensuring young people can build their futures here is rooted in practical, achievable solutions. While my opponent leans on broad tax cuts with little chance of bipartisan support, I am committed to working across the aisle to craft policies that make a real difference—whether it’s property tax relief that doesn’t shift burdens onto middle-class families or investments in industries that will strengthen our local economy for years to come.

On public safety, Perillo suggests increasing penalties for gun crimes in urban areas while dismissing the need for improvements to gun safety laws. This approach does little to prevent violence before it happens. I support stronger mental health resources, common-sense gun safety measures, and community-based initiatives that address the root causes of crime—not just harsher punishments after the fact.

This special election isn’t about political labels. It’s about electing a leader who listens, collaborates, and works toward solutions that serve everyone. I bring a fresh perspective and a commitment to inclusive leadership that puts results over rhetoric. If you’re looking for someone who will work for the entire district—not just their party—you've found the right choice in me.

Make your voice heard. Vote in the special election, and let’s move forward together.
