SPECIAL ELECTION

The 21st Senate District

Why is there an election in February?

This is best explained by the January 10th Governor Lamont Orders Special Elections on February 25 for Two General Assembly Seats press release:

(HARTFORD, CT) – Governor Ned Lamont today announced that he has scheduled Tuesday, February 25, 2025, as the date to hold special elections to fill two vacancies in the Connecticut General Assembly. They include:

the 21st Senatorial District, which consists of portions of Monroe, Seymour, and Stratford, and the entirety of Shelton, and was most recently held by Kevin Kelly.

Both seats became vacant effective January 7, 2025, upon the resignations of the incumbent officeholders.

Under state law, the governor is required to issue a writ of special election within ten days of a seat in the General Assembly becoming vacant, and a special election must be held 46 days after the writ is issued.
